Getting Started

Event Registration for WordPress is a WordPress compatible plugin that allows you to manage events with an online registration and payment process. The application is also equiped to manually register people and manually process payments so that you can track a mixed registration type event.

To get started, locate the plugin from the download page here or from the WordPress Plugins at http://www.wordpress.org/extend/plugins/event-registration.  If you are installing from the WordPress site, you can use the standard add new plugin process from the Plugins area.  If you are installing from a zip file downloaded from this site, follow the steps for manualling installing a plugin using the Plugins – New – Upload options from the Plugins area.  It is recommended not to use FTP to load the plugin, to ensure accurate directory and sub-directory creating during the installation process.

If you are upgrading from a previous version, always backup your database before attempting an upgrade.

Once the plugin has been installed, activate the plugin.  Upon activation you will see the Event Registration Menu on the left navigation bar of your WordPress Admin.

Before completing any of the configuration and settings of the Event Registration plugin, you will need to create two pages for handling the registration and payment process.  Creation of the pages is not optional and the plugin will not operate correctly if you do not create the pages.

  1. REGISTRATION:  This page will be the core of the registration process.  All registration processes on this page.  Create a page, preferably single column attribute and title it, Registration or something similar.  Disable comments on the page.  In the HTML page content section, type the shortcode, including the braces, {EVRREGIS}.  Publish and save the page.
  2. PAYMENTS:  This page will be used for your attendees to return to make payments,  verify payments and view account balances.  Create a page, preferably single column attribute and title it, Event Payments or something similar. Disable comments on the page. In the HTML page content section, type the shortcode, including the braces, [EVR_PAYMENT]. Publish and save the page.

Once you have created your pages for Registration and Event Payments you are ready to configure the plugin for operation.  Using the left navigation, select the  EVNTRG_6.xx.xx menu option.  Selecting this will display the Event Registration dashboard.  From the dashboard you will be able to see what version your plugin is using of the plugins data tables, view links to documentation, see the latest updates from the plugin website and see the latests post from the plugin’s user forum.  Always include a screenshot of this page when emailing for support.

To configure your plugin, select the COMPANY option from the Event Registration Menu in the Admin Left Navigation.  The screen will display a tabbed area with different tabs that control the configuration options for Event Registration.  Please take your time and complete each tab correctly and completely.

Once you have completed the Event creation, you will still need to add and configure the FEES and any extra QUESTIONS for the event.  Note the event creation process is not complete until you have created at least one fee of the REG type with valid dates for your event, even if it is a free event with cost of $ 0.00.  The registration process will not work without at least one valid fee.

Now that you have created an event with valid fees, log out of the Adminstration and visit your site.  Walk through the registration process just like a visitor to your site would do.  It is important to be logged out when testing to ensure you are not accessing a page as an admin to ensure no page security “breaks” the registration process.  Complete the process all the way to being directed to your payment vendor’s site.    Now check your email, did you recieve a confirmation for your registration?  Log in  and check the ATTENDEES page, Is your name/information there?

If all went well, you should now be ready to take registrations for your event.  Please take a moment and register your installation with us, using the REGISTER PLUGIN option in the Event Registration Menu.

Also, Remember to Donate, if you find the plugin useful.  Best of luck!
